Vol. 5   No. 3

Texas Legislature 101

I'm sure many of you already follow Bills that relate either to your livelihood or your lifestyle through the House and Senate, when our State lawmakers make it back up to Austin, every two years.  I'm equally sure that some of you never have, because you never realized how easy it was.

If you're new to the game, here's how it works:

  • Set up an account at:

  • When the account is properly set up, click 'Submit' and you will be taken to:

  • Then, create a list of the Bills you want to track.

  • When you are finished, click 'Save', then, click 'Run'.

  • At the top-left of the page, click 'My TLO'

  • You will be taken to:

  • From there you can select the category for which you are requesting notification, for each Bill on your list.  For instance, if you choose 'Any category', you will be notified anytime anything happens that affects the Bills you are tracking.

  • The State will do the rest by sending you email updates on the Bills you are tracking.

To get you started, I have a list of CHL related Bills at:

The only thing left is to keep reminding your State Senator and State Representative how you expect them to vote on the Bills.  Respectfully remind them that it was your vote that put them in office, and, if they don't get it right, it will be your vote that will elect their successor.

Practice, Practice, Practice
