Shooting Course

(Survival Pistol)

Beginning in January, 2010 we will be offering a 2 day shooting course at the training facility in Medina County.  The course has been developed as a next step up from a fundamentals course.  The cost of the course will be $250/student, for a minimum of 4 students.

We will provide range and classroom facilities and a minimum of 2 instructors for all classes.

The course is presented as follows:
  • Day 1 ( day)
    • 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Classroom
      • Safety:
        • Firearms Safety
        • Coach/Shooter Considerations
        • Range Commands
        • Shooter Responsibilities
      • Fundamentals of Survival Pistol Shooting:
        • Grip
        • Stance
        • Sight Alignment
        • Trigger Control
        • Follow through/Scan and Breath
      • Handling Techniques:
        • Making a Pistol/Revolver Safe
        • Loading and Unloading
        • Presentation of the Firearm from the ready position
        • Three step draw from holster
        • Stoppages - Failure to Feed, Fire, Extract, and Eject
  • Day 2
    • 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Range)  All drills are demonstrated by the instructors.
      • Dry Practical Exercises:
        • Review of Fundamentals on the Firing Line
        • The Three Step Draw (stressing fundamentals during practice)
      • Drills:
        • Circle Drills from Ready Position
        • Circle Drills from Holster
        • Reloading Drills
          • Slide Forward Reload
          • Emergency Reload
        • Stoppage Drills - Conducted with dummy ammunition
        • Combined reloading and Stoppage Drills
        • Reloading Drills - Electronically timed
        • Shooting Positions
          • Standing
          • Kneeling
            • High
            • Low
            • Speed Kneeling
          • Squatting
          • Prone
        • Timed Shooting from Holster - Individual and Group
  • Day 3
    • 9:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Range)
      • Review all previous drills - Live Fire, Circle, Reloading, Stoppages, Positions
      • Moving and Shooting/Shooting and Moving - Right, Left, Forward, and Backward
      • Use of Cover - Presentation and Live Fire
      • Demonstration of Dennis Tueller Drill (by instructors)
      • Live Fire Shooting Evaluation
      • Final Exam - Written
    Prerequisites:
    • The course is limited to CHL Licensees, TCLEOSE Certified Peace Officers, Commissioned Security Officers, and both active duty and reserve members of the US Armed Forces.
    • Participants should have already completed a course on basic handgun safety.
    • Participants must know how to safely
      • Load,
      • Fire,
      • Unload,
      • Draw from a belt mounted holster,
      • Acquire and shoot a single target, and
      • Re-holster the handgun that they will be using.
    Students will be responsible for bringing the following:
    • A safe and properly functioning semi-automatic pistol (9mm or larger), with
      • 3 magazines (hi-cap - double stack), or
      • 5 magazines (single stack),
    • Belt mounted holster,
    • Magazine pouch,
    • 500 rounds of ammunition (No Reloaded Ammunition),
    • Eye & ear protection, and
    • Appropriate range attire:
      • Shirt with a buttonable collar,
      • Footwear that covers entire foot (no sandals or flip-flops),
      • Long pants (no shorts),
      • Head cover (cap), and
      • Rain gear
